Hell Eggs: The Spiciest Breakfast in Hvar Town
Tomato sauce, poached eggs, melted mozzarella, basil and fresh chili. Why our Hell Eggs have become the cult breakfast dish on the Hvar Riva.

There are mornings when granola won't cut it. Hell Eggs is what you order on those mornings.
The dish
A skillet of slow-cooked tomato sauce, heavily seasoned, with three eggs poached directly inside it. On top: a layer of melted mozzarella, fresh basil, and sliced chili. It arrives still bubbling. You eat it with bread, dragging everything through the sauce until the bowl is clean.
The inspiration
The base is classic shakshuka logic, borrowed from North African and Middle Eastern cooking. We made ours slightly more Italian, with mozzarella instead of feta and a heavier tomato reduction. The chili is the part we didn't dial back. It's called Hell Eggs for a reason.
Vegetarian and naturally gluten-free
Hell Eggs is one of our most popular vegetarian dishes, and it's naturally gluten-free. If you have a gluten intolerance, ask us to swap the bread side for a salad. We're happy to adapt.
Best with
A strong espresso, a full glass of still water, and ideally a table facing the harbour so you have something to stare at while the heat registers. Mimosa optional but recommended if you're having a slow morning.
